Thorough, clear, and with a sprinkling of snark make this the best book I've read on "hygge," and I've read LOTS of them. Still looking for someone who can translate the concepts of summer hygge-ing from the cool, crisp woodlands and beaches of Scandinavia to the soggy, humid, bug-infested backyards of America though.

I have the book published in 1988 by Prentice Hall by George J. Klir and Tina A. Folger. This book is recomended for the social sciences specialized in actuarial problems and applications.

I think that there are some wrong proofs in this book.

In the chapter 2 (operations on fuzzy sets), section 2.5 I found some wrong theorems. For instance Theorem 2.8 contain an false partial result: u(a,0)=a. We can define an fuzzy union that satisfy the axioms U1-U4 and does not fulfills the above mentioned condition. So I think that are needed some modifications in the axioms of union and intersections.

Could not leave this fantastic book unreviewed.

If you're reading this you already know it's 5 stars just for the fact that it exists. You can see the table of contents, it is awesome. As you can see for yourself, this is not just a collection of papers, but a nicely organized and well-digested monograph. I haven't read it much yet, but one small criticism - 'Options' isn't in the index, probably the indexers were not the authors and treated it merely as a common English word, but of course it does discuss options. It's pretty well appointed with diagrams and photos, some of them in color. The color ones are pleasant, but are a small proportion, and I'm not sure how much difference color makes, the choice to use color doesn't seem to follow much of a pattern. A final word - the softcover is plenty expensive, but the book is so thick I wish I'd bought the hardcover.

it works good for a high school student

The item is at it's presented - compact, paperback, small print. All in all, it works good for a high school student. The problem for us comes in the actual printing where a block of pages is missing (pages 249 - 312) but good news, pages 313-376 are in there twice. I'd love to find a way to contact the publisher and request a replacement - only we found the mistake after the return deadline had passed.

I can handle the size, print and even paper quality, but this is a pretty big mistake - not sure how many more we'll come across

Great value, ultra-portable

It's inexpensive. Physically it's light, small. Perfect for throwing down in a backpack. People with poor vision will want to go for something larger, but most of the market for this size of a dictionary is probably college students, and they typically won't mind having smaller text size-small price for not having to lug around another massive book.

Content wise I'm sure it's missing a lot of words, you can only cram so much in a book this size. That hasn't really come up for me, but if you can't find a word you can do a web search or go grab a bigger dictionary. The main point of something like this is it can always be right there with you-Phones die, some classes and libraries frown on them or you don't get service-Other dictionaries are just too big and you don't want to keep it with you.

As far as definitions go, I LOVE LOVE LOVE the American Heritage Dictionary. So many times when a question arises about usage of words and we pull out a dictionary to discuss, my usage is not properly covered. Then I go to the AHD, and sure enough, they've got my back! I don't know if it is a regional thing (I'm from the midwest-live in chicago, a lot of Iowans in my family), if other areas of the country/world don't accept the way we use words here, or just an oversight, but the AHD is the only choice for a dictionary for me!

You're either going to love it or hate it.

If this is going to be your only dictionary to have around the house, won't have to travel with it, has to be all-inclusive/easy to read-THIS IS NOT THE DICTIONARY FOR YOU. Get something bigger.

If you need something ultra light and portable that you can keep with you as the first place to go, this is a fantastic choice.

dictionary with extras

What can you say about a dictionary. They are not all created equal. I like this one and use it as my primary dictionary because of all the interesting information about the word that is included. I have a paper version and an ipad app. I just the app and enjoy the audio pronunciation. Searching for words is easy with the app.
Bottom liine is that of all the dictionaries out there I prefer this one for clarity, depth if infomration, synonyms, antonyms and number of words covered.

About the Author
Will Eisner's career spanned the entire history of comic books, from his formative days in the 1930s through the 1940s, when he revolutionized narrative sequential art with his internationally famed weekly newspaper supplement series THE SPIRIT, to the 1970s, when he created the contemporary graphic novel form. In addition to his award-winning graphic novels, he is also the author of the influential study Comics and Sequential Art. Eisner passed away on January 3, 2005 at the age of 87.

well this is a great jumping on point for you

If you are not already a fan of The Spirit, well this is a great jumping on point for you! If you are already a fan, such as I, this is a fabulous group of stories to just sit back and relax with! Will Eisner was one of the immortal graphic artists to walk the earth, with a different kind of story telling that has really never been matched in our time. Perhaps though, one of the most interesting stories in this collection is not Eisner scripted nor drawn, but is Darwyn Cooks match up of The Spirit with another great crime stopper, Batman. You will not be able to sit this one down, and you will be glad to add it to your collection. Beautiful selection of stories and artwork from both Eisner and some of the great talent that exists amongst us today! You won't be sorry!

A retrospective done right!

This is really well produced volume in celebration of the Spirit by Will Eisner. In an edition that looks great next to the Spirit Archive Editions, DC offers us clear, colorful, easy to read and see reproductions of the strip/comic's original newspaper run, as well as a 1970's story from Kitchen Sink and DC's #1 issue of the Batman/Spirit with Darwyn Cooke doing the rendering. This book is a colorful, fun, celebration of this well-loved creation. Great job DC! Highly recommended.

My girls get excited for these for their summer work. They feel more confident in math after their first workbooks, so I am continuing to use them to supplement ay home what they are studying in school. These workbooks made an especially big difference for my oldest who has struggled in math.

Born February 2, 1905, Ayn Rand published her first novel, We the Living, in 1936. Anthem followed in 1938. It was with the publication of The Fountainhead (1943) and Atlas Shrugged (1957) that she achieved her spectacular success. Rand’s unique philosophy, Objectivism, has gained a worldwide audience. The fundamentals of her philosophy are put forth in three nonfiction books, Introduction to Objectivist Epistemology, The Virtues of Selfishness, and Capitalism: The Unknown Ideal. This book is a "sleeper" compared to Ayn Rand's well known fictional writings. However, it is essential for anyone interested in art and literature. Rand explains why so much modern art and writing is just dreadful. The book consists a a number of short essays on various aspects of the creative process of art and literature.
