About the Author
Ray Whittington is chairman of the accounting department at San Diego State University, and received his Ph.D. from the University of Houston. He has also been the Director of Audit Research for the AICPA
Kurt Pany is a professor of accounting at Arizona State University, and received his Ph.D. from the University of Illinois. He has been the Director of Audit Research for the AICPA and remains an active member of the AAA.

Functional textbook, but has some issues.

Principles of Auditing is an information dump. There are plenty of charts, references and problems to help you learn auditing. Unfortunately, the book lacks something I look for in a textbook: A glossary of terms. While there are plenty of bolded words to let you know that a term is significant, and these terms are explained, they aren't clearly defined like in most textbooks. This can make making note cards difficult, and lead to misunderstandings in test questions.

I'm not sure if it's the book or the topic or both, but I found the material highly repetitive. It seems each chapter starts off with the same information, making it soooo difficult to know what is specific for that particular topic. In going through the Wiley CPA prep book for Auditing, I found I learned a great deal more than with this text book. The one plus is that the problems at the end of each chapter are excellent practice.
